Background & SigmaPipe Philosophy

Dr Rodney James Dry FTSE (Rod Dry) is Director of RDPC Pty Ltd, a small Australian-based consulting company providing process analysis and flowsheet modelling services. RDPC owns and supports SigmaPipe.

Rod is a chemical engineer with more that 30 years' experience. He was previously a lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. For 23 years he worked for Rio Tinto on HIsmelt (direct iron smelting).  

Motivation for developing SigmaPipe arose from young HIsmelt engineers asking for assistance with relatively simple fluid flow problems such as pressure loss and sizing of venturis or orifice plates. In principle, they could have looked in text books and coded what they needed in Excel. However, in practice they simply did not have the time...

What you see is designed, in the first instance, to help in this type of situation.  SigmaPipe is primarily for plant engineers who need rapid answers before moving on to the next issue.
